This pocket icon comes from Ethiopia and is estimated to be between 80 and
100 years old. These kinds of icons were made for a fee by monks for believers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
The icon was carried by the believer and/or placed or hung on a kind of altar at home.
The pocket icon is made of wood and decorated on the outside with carved cross motifs. The inside is painted with two fold-out hatches. There are four paintings
of angels and saints in total, two on each side.
Size of the square part is 7 x 7 cm and unfolded 14 cm.
The total height including the decoration on top is 12 cm.
